Late 2020 is definitely a big time for most PC builders who have been waiting for a long time. Especially due to the pandemic, building a nice PC turns out to be a fun thing to do at home. Moreover, AMD Ryzen 9 (zen3) CPU with the new revolution of the Nvidia RTX 3000 series makes a significant upgrade comparing the previous generation.
Use Cases
I am a developer, photographer, and casual gamer. Here is what I will use this dream machine for.
Firstly, as a developer, I will do software development with IDEs such as Visual Studio Code, IntelliJ, Goland. During the development, I also need some development and testing environments, such as docker, or VirtualBox to run Linux.
Secondly, as a photographer, I use Lightroom (Classic) to do post-production. Since I am taking photos with DSLs, it produces a 50MB+ raw format file per shot. Therefore, I need a powerful machine to import the files, process them, and export to a common format such as JPEG.
Thirdly, As a gamer, I use it to play PvP style games such as StarCraft 2 or Overwatch. An unreliable PC that has lagged and crashing issues easily ruins the experience.
However, I haven’t built this machine yet. You may find most of them are out of stock due to the popularity today (2020/11/14). Instead, I would like to share my plan here first. I will keep updating this post while I have progressed with it.
